New Facebook Updates

Sep 22 2011

Hey there.

So, unless you live under a rock, you’ve noticed that Facebook has made a few updates to their interface. This means enhanced privacy settings and more information overload than you can shake a stick at.

However, I do see some potential here for helping with social media marketing. The new mini news feed in the top right corner is in real-time, and users can leave comments on these updates without ever leaving their home page. I am interested to see if companies start soliciting responses via the mini-feed by frequently updating their pages and statuses with questions and incentives for UGC.

These updates may be annoying and overwhelming for users at first, but I think they offer companies new branding potential, which may have been Facebook’s goal.

PPC: Publishers make money by hosting ads on their Web sites, and they make a certain amount of money based on the number of people who click on the ads. The amount of money they make per click on each advertisement is the PPC, or pay per click.

For sites that make their money using PPC advertising, SEO is extremely important. The more traffic these sites have, the more clicks they are likely to get on the ads, and the more money they can potentially make. Most of these ads are also SEO-driven, so they try to match the content of the ads with the content on the page. The only way the ads can accurately target your audience is if the page is written with SEO.

CPC- Cost per click. Cost per click is a term used by advertisers in conjunction with search engine advertising, such as Google AdSense. Advertisers pay for each click on the ads, but do not have to pay for every time the ad runs. The cost per click, or CPC, is the amount of money the advertiser pays when the ad is clicked.
